“The Shadows of Our Minds”

Can                                    I

touch                                 your

hair?                                  Place

my                                    hand

on                                     your

shoulder?                            Feel

the                                    warmth

of                                     your

body?                                Your

presence                                my

anchor,                               keeping

me                                      steady.

But                               in the

darkness                    of the night

when                           I close my eyes

and                          feel you near

I                             know

you                            are

not                          here.

Review by Massimo Fantuzzi

Tale of an escape, where words and reality no longer seem willing to stay together. Who is fleeing, and who is giving chase? Hiding remains the instinctive response; to run is the reflex. But the strength of this poem lies in the revelation that truth is found not in daylight, streetlights, or neon, but in the double darkness of night and closed eyes. It becomes an act of trust in the inner voice – untaught, unconstrained, yet accurate and true.
