Waiting to Complete

Wanting to complete, the building wanting to
Complete its walls, the riverbank wanting to
Complete its dissolution, my plans a torrent of
Blank sheets waiting for architectural plans
And cost analysis, my hair growing thin
Waiting to complete the dome of my
Frustration and my boss, who waddles a huge
Bulk with precision down an unfinished hall
Grinning like a ten-year old

In the morning, at dawn after a light rain, I
Pack my lunch in a thin plastic bag wanting to
Be bigger for the large banana, and then the
Opposite not big enough, too short wanting to
Be big enough, and I fall asleep at the sink
Wanting to sleep again, waiting for the coffee
To percolate

And the day wanting to be a full day, wanting
What the yawning, waking time will bring, the
Day like a black, ferocious bull at midday
Wanting to be fully grown and fully formed,
Waiting

Hold up the wall, hold up the wall, the day is
At full throttle, the gold sun against the white
Washed wall, fiercely reflecting, wanting to be
Complete waiting for the bus that comes
When the street lights come on, waiting
