ON WAKING IN WINTER

The moon seems wrinkled
like an old woman
with a fatal disease,
or is that only the way
I see it?
Is time god’s revenge
for the things we’ve done?
Life is part hope,
and part illusion.
I’ve turned sixty-three.
Where I’m now at,
it’s mostly confusion.
